Impact for Climate Action: Supreme Audit Institutions Call for Effective Implementation of Climate Policies

1 Dec

16:30-18:00 GST

National governments are increasingly building up domestic policies and funding instruments for climate action. From the perspective of public sector budgets, it is important that spending is effective and just. Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) as government external auditors have a key role in holding their governments accountable for their budget spending and increasing the transparency of funding. SAIs call for better climate risk management, cost-effective measures, effective implementation, and coherent policies. SAI United Arab Emirates and the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) will organise a panel discussion titled “Impact for Climate Action – Supreme Audit Institutions Call for Effective Implementation of Climate Policies” bringing together SAIs of Brazil, Canada, European Court of Auditors, Maldives, USA, and INTOSAI Development Initiative to discuss audit conclusions. The session presents global analysis of climate audits, findings on climate change mitigation and climate finance, climate resilience in the SIDS as frontline communities, as well as projects on green fiscal policy tools, global cooperative audit on climate change adaptation actions, and development of ClimateScanner metrics.
