COP28 Summit on Methane and Other Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases
2 Dec
15:45-16:45 GST
This COP28 Summit will show how the worlds’ largest economies take concrete action, and inspire partners to do so, leading to a reduction of up to 0.5C of warming by 2050. Methane and other non-CO2 GHG gasses are responsible for over half of today’s warming. These gasses including methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, and tropospheric ozone-are dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of times more potent than CO2. Reducing methane and other non-CO2 GHG gasses will have a disproportionate impact on temperatures in the next decades, and as a result the world must combine comprehensive decarbonization goals with immediate reduction of these non-CO2 GHG gasses to keep 1.5 within reach.
