The oil and gas industry will need to meet global energy needs while the economy transitions to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. However, the industry must take on a new role in the energy sector going forward, committing both to lowering emissions from their operations, and providing solutions to their customers to decarbonize and lower emissions throughout the economy. Reconciling the dual roles of the oil and gas industry going forward will require creative and adaptive strategies for finance, investment, and planning, prioritizing energy security whilst ensuring an enabling environment for the transition to clean sources of energy. What are action areas for the industry to enable the transition to net-zero? How will the industry be able to complement the broader energy transition?
